Baking

Mr. Yuck Cake

Originally uploaded by raygan.

Jamie and I have started baking. We’re also collecting old shaped character cake pans, like dinosaurs and things. Here’s a picture of a cake we did recently. It was awesome (and now it’s all gone, as tends to happen with good cake.)

Camping

January 19, 2007

Jamie and I went camping. It’s taken me a while to put up the photos from it, but better late than never. We had intended to stay two nights but we ended up leaving after only one, because of the torrential rain and impending ice storm. Still, the first night was great. Take a look!

Camping!

January 12, 2007

Finally! Jamie and I are going camping! I’ll be out of town till Sunday, at Pedernales Falls State Park. Everybody wish me tolerable weather!

El Grande

El Grande Box

No it’s not a new supersizing deal at Taco Bell, it’s a new board game that I got for Christmas! I’ve played one brief game of it and it’s pretty darn good, with lots of room for expansion (actually it came with several expansions, none of which I have tried).  I don’t know if anybody out there is interested in playing board games about 15th century Spain, but if you are, give me a call. It seats up to five players and we rarely have more than four.

Wii Browser

December 23, 2006

The Wii browser came out today, and I have discovered that it is now possible for me to write blog posts from my couch, on my tv. I have also discovered that it takes a really long time, tapping out letters on the onscreen keyboard. I won’t be doing this again.

A Tribute to Fatherhood, Fresh Prince style

December 17, 2006

A not-so-funny, legitimately well acted moment from one of the best sit-coms of the 90s.

Will’s Father walks out on him.

This actually got me choked up a little.

Joanna Newsom

December 13, 2006

Last night Jamie and I went to The Orange Show to see Joanna Newsom in concert, and man, was she amazing. The harp is such a totally impressive instrument. She’s not for everybody; her songs are mostly over 9 minutes long which some people have a hard time with, but I’ve gotten to really like it. She’s a poet, and a master of a very difficult instrument, and also totally adorable.Joanna Newsom

Rollerprom

Jamie, as social events director for KTRU, was in charge of Rollerprom, which was exactly what it sounds like.Jamie Rollerskating

It was a  lot of fun.

Holiday Spirit

December 6, 2006

All day i’ve been getting into the holiday spirit by looking at these pictures of children terrified of Santa. Hilarious!

NeoOffice

December 5, 2006

I just thought I’d share this in case there’s an actual Mac user out there reading my infrequent and irrelevant blog.

I’ve just kicked Microsoft to the curb for good, because I’ve tried NeoOffice, the totally free and open-source Office suite for the Mac. NeoOffice is an Aqua-native Mac port of the popular and really complete OpenOffice.org project, a fantastic free-as-in-speech office suite for Windows and Linux. It has a fully functional word processor, presentation/sideshow app, spreadsheet, drawing program, math formula program, and database tool, all of which have the ability to import and export files from their major closed-software counterparts (Microsoft Office particularly). The import/export features are the most well developed I’ve ever seen, and it seems to not only match or exceed Microsoft Office in features, it has what seems to me to be a superior design.

So if you’re on a Mac and you don’t have Microsoft Office, or you have an older version, as I did, or even if you just want to try something new, give NeoOffice a try. It’s a large download but it’s totally worth the wait.
