Okkervil River
October 27, 2006If there’s anybody out there who hasn’t heard of Okkervil River, maybe you should check them out. Their music is very good.
(yeah I’m a little bored.)
Not My Fault
October 26, 2006It wasn’t my fault.
EDIT: They tell me it will be fixed some time next week, probably around Wednesday. It’s not going to be as pretty as it once was, but because it was a very low speed collision and none of the vital parts were damaged, it should be perfectly drivable, if a little ghetto looking. Too bad, but that’s life I suppose.
Cast In Bronze
October 26, 2006So last Sunday, at the Renaissance Festival, Jamie and I saw this creepy guy playing a giant bell instrument called a Carrilon. He calls his act “Cast In Bronze” and apparently he’s America’s only traveling carillon act. He’s also got this ridiculous, phantom-of-the-opera ambiance to his act that makes it extra campy and fun to watch.
I’ve got some photos of it, but I haven’t uploaded them yet. I did find this YouTube video of the guy, though, and I thought some of you might find it amusing.
My Sunday Plans
October 22, 2006Ok, I’m about to leave to go to the Renaissance Festival. I’m particularly excited about the fried foods-on-a-stick. Jamie is going with me, and maybe a couple of her roommates.
After we get back we’re going to the Okkervil River/Jenny Lewis and the Watson Twins show at Numbers.
Don’t know why I felt compelled to blog about that, but now you know! ![]()
Rain Bad, Play Good!
October 16, 2006I managed last night to drive my car through a deep puddle on the way onto the Rice campus, which a few minutes later on my way off of the rice campus had become a little bit deeper. Deep enough, apparently, to stall my car in the water.
Then I managed to put it in neutral and push it back out, and my dad came by and helped me jump start the car so I was able to drive it home, but this was after two hours of standing around in the rain and wading through water up to my knees pushing thousands of pounds of car uphill through the water.
Oh, but before that Jamie and I went to the Alley and saw Much Ado About Nothing. It was really a great production and I totally recommend everyone go see it. It was well acted and had really, really interesting design. It was like Rollerball meets Katamari Damacy, if you can imagine that.
WOXY
October 11, 2006Apparently this was around for ages, and then went off the air, and has just come triumphantly back, but this is the first I’ve heard of it. WOXY is an apparently Internet-only radio station that plays mostly indie and unsigned music, and is way more interesting than most internet radio stations I’ve heard.
It’s DJed live every day from 9 am to 11 pm, and they frequently have “lounge acts” where they have a band into the studio for a live set and an interview. (Check out the lounge act archive too, it’s got some great stuff in there. I just listened to Laura Veirs live set, and it was great.)
They have some podcasts too, if you’re into that.

Crazy Busy
October 3, 2006This is an alert to all my friends that rehearsals for Antigone (at UH) have started as of the 2nd of October, and that means (you guessed it) that I’m crazy busy.
This doesn’t mean that I don’t want to hang out with you, it just means that I probably can’t between the hours of 7pm and 10:30pm Monday thru Friday, or from 10am to 2pm on Saturdays, until the show opens the second weekend in November.
But all of you that needed to hear that would have heard it from me eventually. What I’m really posting this about is that I’m putting out a general plea to all my friends who are also friends with Shane to hang out with him as much as possible for the next month or so. He’s going to be helpless and lonely without me. Especially if Julia isn’t around. Also, drive him places if you can so I don’t have to fight him for the car.

Help This Man! (The one not making the rude gesture)
Thanks for your help!
